Royal Opera House: Existing adverts research


So, in preparation of this task, I decided to have a look at the royal opera houses examples of existing design, maybe see if i could come to an understanding of what may be going wrong. There was something that struck me instantly looking at these designs. They really want to make hollywood style posters, but all the people making hollywood posters are doing just that, so they have been left with these designs that somehow strike a poster design uncanny valley. They really are quite polished images, but not to the quality of the market they are clearly trying to match, leaving them to kinda come across as tacky.

I think the lesson is to avoid this by not falling in to the same goal, instead focussing on a stylistic work of illustration, or havein conceptually driven outcomes.
