Group screen print

New brief time, this time the aim of the game is to make a sequential image book.
Group Screen Print

To start things off for our new project we were given a screen printing assignment and split in to separate groups, and told to explore leeds with specific tasks to accomplish, those being-

-Learn about healing crystals
-Buy something from a charity shop and/or give something to a charity shop
-Go to the highest point in the city you can manage and take a photo of the view
-Make some public art
-Visit some allotments and learn about veg
-Walk down Briggate with your eyes closed with help from the rest of your group
-Get your eyebrows threaded
-Try something you haven't eaten before
-Go to the bookies and place a bet
-Ask someone local if they know of any myths or legends about Leeds
-Go the the German market, have your photo taken with a giant sausage or Hot Chocolate
-Go to the toy shop and play with the toys
-Go to the market and buy some tripe
-Try on a wig
-Buy someone a cup of tea
-Feed the pigeons or ducks
-Have a chat with a newsagent and find out something about their life
-Have your photo taken stood next to a statue, pretending to be that statue
-Try on some fabulous shoes
-Follow an electric pylon for as far as you can
-Go to Whitelocks, drink ½ of the weakest ale on tap and ask for a pickled egg
-Play Pooh Sticks on the river Aire
-Do a full lap of the City Market and buy something for £1
-Visit the City Library, enquire about to get a library card and find the Graphic Novel section
-Go the Chinese Supermarket and eat/drink something I’ve never tried before

The highlighted tasks represent the ones that we achieved on the day, and what a great day it was. Two personal highlights, would be buying satay jellyfish from an oriental supermarket and the attainment of multiple bowie related items.

The Jellyfish was super weird, To start it tricks you by having a nice, sweet satay covering then bang! Pungent fishy flavours take over, not pleasant at all, Alex's reaction sums it up perfectly-

One of the bowie related items was attained through the find something for a pound at the market, found by another member of the group, i was super jealous of this purchase, but shes the biggest Bowie fan i know so it was found by the right person.

The next item was an absolute fluke, we decided to nip in to a record store, and happened to find a collection of advertising posters they were giving away, and found another Bowie related item, this time one for both myself and the Bowie superfan to take, good times!
Day Completed time to make a book

I was really excited to get to work after a successful day of tasks and got to writing ideas for what to use as a narrative. My initial idea was super weird and didnt exactly fit the briefing, but i took three events that happened on the day
-The giving of a cup of tea to a homeless person
-The satay Jellyfish
-The finding of multiple bowie related items

I amalgemated these events to form a story called Bowies charitable Jellyfish phase, where looking for a new sound, bowie moves to the ocean and winds up helping the fish community.

Outside of this there were two other ideas offered by other members of the grop to consider, one following a shrunken Bowie in the oriental supermarket, using the variety of food items to make music, and a book that simply portrayed the exchanges of the day.

Deciding on which of the themes did come under heavy debate, with a large amount of time taken up with decision making. With this our tutor stepped in and advised that working with exchanges would be for the best, with it actually following the brief entirely and literally displaying the events of the day.

With that we started a little task, each of us drawing a hand, then giving it to someone else to draw atop of, fun and realy helped set the tone for what type of work we would create for the output.

With that came our actual outputs, mine consisting of the Jellyfish reactions

With our images decided upon, and our layers generated, we gott stuck in to the printing process. Its a lengthy one, but incredibly rewarding, very happy with the final outcome.

These are the full layout of pages finished, with the two below being my contribution, its a really nice outcome and one that im proud to have been part of.
