Drawing with shapes (Nice outfit!)

Shape was the aim of the game this week, and how to draw with just them.

So it may seem weird that i'm grouping these watercolour images with the digital image, but i thought it best seen as these represent mediums that are very safe to myself, i have quite a bit of experience with them by now and haven't really gained all that much knowledge from making them. No doubt they were a lot of fun to create, and it was interesting, getting to grips with building people and characters with just shape, but the biggest breakthrough was specifically with a medium change. That being paper craft.

So this first outcome, lets call it "Pilot hat" is the first time i've ever used paper craft to create an image  and stretched the colour further than three tones. I really wanted to use the task as an excuse to make a big garish, bright, 80's style jumper for a character, cutting up squares and triangles, and just mashing them together to make a lovely atrocity. I think it looks great, a really effective method of creating an image like this. The costume was built pretty much off a mixture of the medium, ( say the gold helmet came from seeing the gold card and thinking helmet.) and the trousers from "The incal" that i read recently, a futuristic sci-fi story where the occasional character wears ye olde elements of clothing and really caused me to question character clothing outside current trends.

like this fella.

And this final outcome, a character that you can dress with clothing items i drew up digitally, printed and cut out. The idea came whilst sticking the elements for the previous outcome together, and thinking it was a shame that it couldn't be a dress character. So with a smidge of time left i quickly whipped this out, its a bit of a shame it had to be digital, but time n all that. I was very happy with the result and it was kind of neat to mess around with, but the biggest issue was that come time for presentation, i forgot to signify that you could mess around with it, and nobody bloody touched it. Ah well lesson learned.
