It was brought to my attention by a classmate that an emerging music magazine was holding a competition, to create a fan art for any of the bands that had been featured by them.
I chose HMLTD, a band I've seen on multiple occasions. The slew of ideas in my mind indicated that I had to attempt this brief.
My initially had the intention to play with the origin of their name, "Happy Meal LTD" (which was forcibly changed). The connotation of fast food restaurant really stood out to me. There were so many fun situations I could place the members in to.
I was especially fond of this idea, where the members were sat around a table, toying with their food and chatting, but then something struck me... the brief hadn't mentioned size dimensions, and Id just been doing any format. Upon second look there was no information. But based on the magazine, they typically have their illustrations on a single A4 page, and previous examples shared also took this format.
This sadly meant that I would have to abandon the favoured Idea, but thankfully had another that I wished to work on. For this I wanted to draw the singer with a burger choker, ketchup and mustard flowing over his head, and to top it off a gherkin covering one of his eyes.
