Photoshop workshop - Try with the cacti

 The Cactus project

Following the studio task to draw from imagery and plant life, we were set a photoshop task with any outcome of our choice. I chose the cactus, feeling it was my strongest outcome, and would certainly generate some interesting outcomes when using layer masks.

These first two outcomes are simply the original scan, and its inverted counterpart.

All aimages above were created using gradient maps, playing with the tones of the work and switching up the colours.

These images were created using the afore mentioned layer mask feature, mixing the inverted image with a cyan layer, seeing the differing ways it would affect the work.

Finally an image where i isolated the grey tones of the cactus and pot rim, to allow the placement of colour behind the image. The cactus itself was rather dark, so all i needed to do was lower the opacity for that colour to shine on through.
